More March

I feel like our February and March flip flopped this year; these past few weeks have been cold!

Despite the cold, Dorothy and I were very entertained one morning, as a tree climber took down a very large and very dead walnut tree in our backyard.

Dave wanted to cut and haul the wood out himself, so he could 1. Buy a chainsaw and 2. Save the wood for projects. I feel like it's going to take months to clear it all out, but we got a ton of work done this weekend.

The goal is to clear a lot of the smaller trees and brush out, so the kids can actually have more room to explore the backyard. We have been wanting to clear out some more space for a while, but have had other projects we needed to do. It's kind of like a 5 year anniversary present to our house!

Dave had to go back to Hawaii for work, and had the opportunity to stay over the weekend. The kids and I went to Hickory for some grandparent reinforcement! The kids woke up so early, that we got to enjoy this beautiful sunrise.

We got to see Penny play in her soccer game, snuggled the animals, went to the movies and spent lots of time with cousins. It was a great weekend!

Dorothy conquered a fear this week! She finally climbed up the inflatable slides and had a blast.

Working up the courage...

Deciding if it is worth it...

Getting some air...

Totally worth it!!

Hoping our Spring weather comes soon, so we can get our yard work done, but mostly so we can get out side and play!!

March Right In

I took 2 sick children to the doctor's office on Valentine's Day. Thankfully, they only had ear infections, so we had some magic pink liquid with our Valentine dinner! I did feel bad that all 3 missed their Valentine exchanges at school, but I tried to make up for it with a fun dinner of French Dip sandwiches and Chocolate fondue for dessert.

Basketball season came to an exciting end. Link's team made it to the final championship game. Sadly, they lost by a couple points, but they had a terrific season. Link's had such a stand-up man for his coach. The family invited everyone over for a dinner and awards night after the season was over. Coach told him to keep playing basketball, because he is going to get pretty tall!

Lincoln was also awarded Student of the Month for February. His face was beaming when he came home and told me!

I had an ER scare earlier this week (I'm totally fine now!), but I didn't have a lot of color in my face or energy for a few days. When I was feeling like myself, I got dressed in real clothes and did my hair and makeup. I walked out of my room, being silly and said, "Who looks good?? This mom, right here!" Lincoln said, "Mom, you look like a teenager!"

We have been having such beautiful weather: we have been visiting local parks about twice a week. I love how Dorothy is right in there with the boys!

One morning while we were at the park, Dorothy clearly told me, "I do dis one, you no help me." This is so amazing for her! She continues to make great progress with her speech.

She is so independent! The dentist thought it was hilarious that she didn't want me to be in the room with her, while she was getting her teeth cleaned. He had just come from a patient the same age screaming during the exam, so this was a nice surprise for him. I wish she would be just as independent at night; she has been waking up several times wanting me or Dave to snuggle her. After several months of failing to keep her in bed, we have given up and she is now is a mattress right beside ours. She is pretty much my shadow, and I'm ok with that!

Drakie loves to spend alone time with me, and I'm just thrilled he wants to! I had to run an errand about 30 minutes from home. I told him it would be boring, because it was a long ride. He said he didn't care, he just wanted to be with me. Obviously, I had to let him pick out a treat at a nearby grocery store. I told him he could pick out anything he wanted to, and he chose kiwi. That boy may look exactly like Dave, but he did get some of me genes too!!

Drake is becoming such a great reader! He is staying up way too late, since he can now read. How does this bed head even happen??

For Dr. Seuss day at school, he wanted to make a 1 Fish, 2 Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish shirt instead of dressing up like a character. Pinterest has a really cute idea of using handprints for the fish, so that's what we did. He told his Teacher's Assistant, "there are a lot of Thing 1 and 2s, but you are the cutest." He know how to melt some hearts! Dorothy and I were able to see all the characters march in a parade around the school.
